TotalEnergies Solutions: Driving Decarbonization in Maritime Operations

TotalEnergies is actively engaged in the decarbonization of maritime activities, implementing innovative solutions to reduce the environmental impact of its operations and those of its partners. This commitment extends to using all available means to minimize carbon footprints, even those that might seem minor at first glance.

A Full-Scale Test for Decarbonization: TotalEnergies and Bourbon Partnership

TotalEnergies has undertaken promising pilot programs to test the effectiveness of its fuel solutions in real-world scenarios. A notable example is a pilot program conducted in Angola, which demonstrated the significant impact of an additive in reducing CO2 emissions.

As Bernard Dequenne from TotalEnergies states, "The first conclusions drawn from this pilot test carried out in Angola are very encouraging. We have proven that the additive has a very significant impact." This success is part of a broader strategy, where TotalEnergies aims to reduce the overall fuel consumption of its fleet by 3 to 5%. Such a reduction, while seemingly small, can lead to substantial overall gains in terms of CO2 emissions. Following the positive results from the Angola pilot, TotalEnergies is now considering implementing this approach across all its Exploration & Production maritime activities.

Excellium Pro Concentrate: Facilitating the Transition to Alternative Fuels

A key component of TotalEnergies' solution portfolio is Excellium Pro Concentrate. This additive offers numerous benefits, particularly in the context of transitioning to alternative and renewable fuels.

"The use of Excellium Pro Concentrate is particularly beneficial mainly for the engine protection benefits (anti-corrosion, anti-wear, anti-oxidant, reduction of injector deposits) that make it possible to secure the use of alternative and renewable fuels."

Excellium Pro Concentrate has undergone rigorous testing with various alternative fuels, including biodiesel, 100% pure Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), and even more unconventional options like Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL). According to Dequenne, this product plays a crucial role in empowering TotalEnergies' customers and users to confidently switch to these alternative fuels, thereby accelerating their decarbonization efforts. He emphasizes that "Excellium Pro Concentrate makes it easier for customers and users to switch to these alternative fuels and thus decarbonize their operations."

By focusing on both direct emission reductions through additives and facilitating the adoption of cleaner fuels, TotalEnergies Additives and Fuel Solutions are contributing significantly to the maritime industry's journey towards a more sustainable future.
