Excellium Racing 100: TotalEnergies’ 100% Sustainable Fuel Powers the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans

Discover how TotalEnergies is revolutionizing endurance racing with Excellium Racing 100, a 100% sustainable* fuel produced in Givors at TEAFS and used during the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans. Performance, innovation, and emissions reduction are at the heart of the competition.

An exceptional fuel born in Givors.

At TotalEnergies Additives and Fuels Solutions (TEAFS) in Givors, we are especially proud to produce Excellium Racing 100, a 100% sustainable* fuel that powers the cars competing in the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans. It is in our plant that this innovation comes to life, thanks to the expertise of our passionate teams committed to the energy transition.

A strategic partnership with the ACO for more sustainable endurance racing.

For several decades, TotalEnergies has been working alongside the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) to make endurance racing a platform for energy innovation. This strategic partnership, renewed and strengthened over time, allows the Company to test next-generation fuels under extreme conditions. The 24 Hours of Le Mans, the legendary race of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), has thus become a true open-air laboratory.

The unique demands of endurance racing—24-hour events, thousands of kilometers covered, extreme temperatures—require fuels that are powerful, stable, and efficient. It is in this context that TotalEnergies develops solutions that anticipate the needs of tomorrow’s motorists.

Excellium Racing 100: A Technological Revolution

With the evolution of WEC (World Endurance Championship) regulations—particularly in the Hypercar category—pure performance is no longer enough. The new rules demand maximum energy efficiency, with a clear objective: achieving more with less. This requirement reflects the current concerns of manufacturers and drivers alike: reducing the carbon footprint.

It is with this in mind that TotalEnergies developed Excellium Racing 100, a 100% sustainable* fuel. It builds on the legacy of Excellium Endurance, which already contained 15% bio-based components.

Excellium Racing 100 is partly produced from bioethanol derived from residues—a renewable resource sourced from French agriculture. This choice of local raw materials helps to repurpose agricultural waste.

At TEAFS, we are proud to transform these residues into clean, high-performance energy, right here at our Givors facility.

Thanks to its 100% sustainable* composition, Excellium Racing 100 reduces greenhouse gas emissions on the track by at least 65%** compared to an equivalent fossil fuel. A major breakthrough for motorsport—and for the broader energy transition."**

ER100

An innovation endorsed by the entire motorsport community.

Launched in March 2022 during the 1000 Miles of Sebring, Excellium Racing 100 has been rigorously tested and validated by all stakeholders: car manufacturers, engineers, technical teams, and the ACO. This fuel now powers all vehicles competing in the FIA WEC, including those in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the European Le Mans Series.

This widespread adoption is a testament to the product’s reliability, performance, and safety. It also highlights TotalEnergies’ ability to work hand in hand with the motorsport ecosystem to drive energy innovation forward. And for us at TEAFS, it is a great source of pride to see our expertise recognized on the global stage.

With Excellium Racing 100, TotalEnergies reaffirms its role as a pioneer in the energy transition. This fuel embodies the values we share with the FIA: safety, hybridization, reduced consumption, and decarbonized mobility.

By developing concrete, high-performance solutions for competition, we are preparing the fuels of tomorrow for everyone. Because what is tested today on the track at the 24 Hours of Le Mans could very well power the vehicles of millions of drivers around the world tomorrow.

And tomorrow?

The story doesn’t end here. Excellium Racing 100 will soon be replaced by a new generation of even more innovative fuel. At TEAFS, we are already hard at work writing this next chapter. Stay tuned: the future of sustainable mobility is being shaped here—with us.

*Excellium Racing 100 is certified 100% sustainable under the mass balance system, as verified by a voluntary certification body approved by the European Union.

**In line with the methodology set by the European RED II directive (2018/2001), Excellium Racing 100 enables a reduction of at least 65% in greenhouse gas emissions compared to its fossil fuel equivalent.
